Reflections

Can you add a single moment to your life by worrying?  Why become anxious about clothes?  If even the smallest things are beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest?  Learn from the way the wild flowers grow; they do not work or spin.  I tell you: not even Solomon, in all his splendor, was clothed so well as one little flower.  --Jesus

ONE Excerpt:

Resurrection

In this issue, and in this Easter Season, we reflect on the circumstances of Jesus' resurrection.  I have included an excerpt from ONE at the Resurrection.  The goal of OUGPress, our ONE Project, and the sale of bibles and other works of goodness and poignancy, is to foster charity throughout the world.  If you are interested in 501(c)(3) donations, please contact us about our related company, OUG Charities, Inc.

The following excerpt from ONE contains the entire unabridged unified text for your reflection and study.  I have also provided the Unification Index for your reference.  The Unification Index shows you the source of the unified text for reflection back to each of the four Gospels.

ONE Excerpt:

Chapter XVI.  Burial and Resurrection

RESURRECTION OF JESUS. 2854 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, the person out of whom he had driven seven demons, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome, and bought spices they had prepared so that they might go and anoint him.

2855 Very early dawn, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. 2856 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

2858 When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back; it was very large. 2857 Behold, in what appeared to be great earthquake, and an angel of the Lord in dazzling garments had descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it.

2859 On entering the tomb, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were marveling over this, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe. They were utterly amazed. 2860 His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow.

2861They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. He said to them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead?”

2862 The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. 2863 Then the angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be amazed! Do not be afraid! I know that you seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified one.

2864 “He is not here, for, as he said, he has arisen. 2865 Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, 2866 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and then rise on the third day.” 2867 And they remembered his words.

2868 “Come and see the place where they laid him. 2869 Then go quickly and tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, as he told you.’ Behold, I have told you.”

2870 Then they went out and fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, seized with fear, yet overjoyed, and they ran to announce this to his disciples. They said nothing to anyone initially, for they were afraid. 2871 Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven, and to all the others.

2872 The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles, 2873 but their story seemed like nonsense and no one believed them.

2874 [As a result,] Mary Magdalene ran and went to Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “[Then] they have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.”

2875 Thus, Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. 2876 They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; 2877 he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.

2878 When Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths there alone, 2879 and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. 2880 Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.

2881 For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead. 2882 Then the disciples returned home 2883 amazed at what had happened.

2884 Meanwhile, behold, Jesus appeared to certain of the women on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. 2885 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

APPEARANCE TO MARY MAGDALENE. 2886 But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb 2887 and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.

2888 And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where he is.”

2889 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but she did not know it was Jesus.

2890 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.” 2891 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means “Teacher.”

2892 Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going to my father and your father, to my God and your God.’”

2893 Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and what he told her. 2894 They were mourning and weeping. 2895 But, when they heard [again] that he was alive and had been seen by her, they still did not believe.
